Ponencia presentada en el IX Congreso Internacional de Ingeniería de Proyectos celebrado en Málaga en el año 2005The design for disassembly (DFD) is aimed at making it easier that a product and their parts
can be easily reused, remanufactured or recycled. For that reason taking DFD into account is
becoming more and more important when developing new products. With all this, it would be
possible to diminish the environmental impact of the products reducing this way the road
towards the sustainability of the society.
The objective of the communication is to analyze how the parameters that affect to the
disassembly using the methodology TRIZ can evolve, in such a way that solutions of design
echo-innovators are achieved.
At the moment we are working on the definition and implementation of an architecture that
helps the designers. As a result of the communication we present eco-innovation solutions for
the parameters that affect to the disassembly.
Integrating these eco-innovation solutions in the architecture we are working on will allow the
designers to carry out more respectful designs with the environment.
more important. In addition, the tendency is to approach the sustainability of the
society, which causes the designers to begin to deal with problems related to the
environment.
The objective of the communication is to analyze the interrelation that exists between
some methodologies of ecodesign and the techniques of creativity that can be used
in it, as well as the effectiveness that can have to obtain innovating solutions.
At the moment we are working on the definition and implementation of an
architecture which helps the designers. Two of the proposed objectives are indeed
the inclusion of creativity techniques and the inclusion of methodologies and
knowledge applicable to the ecodesign. As result of the communication, we show the
most significant relation between some of the methodologies of ecodesign and the
techniques of creativity.
Mainly, the following methodologies are being applied: PILOT, Eco-compass, TRIZ,
PIT (Product Ideas Tree), etc. This interrelation will allow us to define new techniques
and methodologies that could be integrated in our architecture.
PIT (Product Ideas Tree), etc.
Triz applied for eco-innovation in design for disassembly
Ponencia presentada en el IX Congreso Internacional de Ingeniería de Proyectos celebrado en Málaga en el año 2005Eco-innovation is the field that supports the development of new products and services by
means of considering environmental aspects from the first stages of design. This way the
environmental impact of new products is reduced, contributing to a sustainable society
development.
In the engineering context, disassembly may be defined as the organized process of taking
apart a systematically assembled product (assembly of components). Products may be
disassembled to enable maintenance, enhance serviceability and/or to affect end-of-life (EOL)
objectives such as product reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling.
The objective of this paper is to present a new method of eco-innovation that combines
Design for Disassembly and TRI
Reusability and Flexibility in Parametric Surface-based Models: A Review of Modelling Strategies
CAD systems are indispensable tools in the product design and development process. Through the creation of parametric 3D models, they increase productivity, enable the design of highly complex parts, improve collaboration between different work teams and reduce time to launch. Nevertheless, during the design process there are many different modelling solutions to generate any one part, and the robustness and flexibility of a model depends to a great extent on the experience of the designer. This dependence on individuals rather than methodologies has a negative impact on downstream engineering activities,as many models are not easily editable. Developing a methodology to produce flexibleand reusable 3D models is therefore key to reducing the design time of the product development process. In this paper,we review the state of the art with regardtoflexibility and reusability in parametric surface-based models. We identify gaps in the field and determine the principle aspects in CAD development workflows which influence flexibility and reusability. We aim to expand the field of knowledge and establish a foundation for future research into the development of a surface-based modelling methodology
Ponencia presentada en el XIV Congreso Internacional de Ingeniería de Proyectos celebrado en Madrid, 30 de junio, 1 y 2 de julio de 2010The automotive sector, given the need to reduce energy demand and environmental impact of vehicles, needs to reduce the weight of vehicles. Lightweighting strategy to implement is based on the massive use of plastics and composites, which are lighter than steel and alloys.
Use of plastics and composites will significantly reduce emissions during the use stage In that phase energy demand is about 85% of the total energy required during the life cycle of the vehicle. However, it should be assessed whether the improvements are not offset in other stages of the life of the product, in which steels and alloys may have less environmental impact than plastics and composites.
In order to work out the fuel savings achieved during the use stage of the vehicle due to the weight reduction, several mathematical models can be used during the design phase. The study of those models will let us know the design parameters that must be considered in order to successfully apply the lightweighting strategy.
Ponencia presentada en el XIV Congreso Internacional de Ingeniería de Proyectos celebrado en Madrid, 30 de junio, 1 y 2 de julio de 2010European Union, by means of Directive 2000/53/EC on end-of-life vehicles, limits the deposit of waste materials coming from vehicles in landfills. Directive 2000/53/EC provides that, by 1st January 2015, maximum 5% by weight of the vehicle will be deposited in landfills at the end of its useful life. That is, at least 95% by weight of the vehicle must be recovered.
Currently, Spain recovers over 85% of vehicle weight. Almost all metallic materials are recovered. That represents approximately 75% of the vehicle. On the other hand, Spain recovers only half of plastics and composites, setting 10% of vehicle weight. If current situation doesn ’t change, the increasing use of plastics and composites in the automotive sector will increase the waste deposited in landfills. To reverse this situation it is necessary to consider the end-of-life of the product during the design stage of future vehicles.
This paper discusses those design methodologies that consider the end-of-life and recovery process of complex products as key design aspects. Their study will reveal relevant considerations to the vehicle design process using plastics and composites.
Personas for policy-making and healthcare design
The tool Personas has been used by different research teams to represent diversity among elderly people. This tool has been widely used in the discipline of product and service design and in recent years has spread to other fields such as strategic design and policy-making. However, these Personas lack accuracy when describing capabilities and are too general when describing psycho-social aspects of the person. As a result, the tool does not provide designers with the detailed information they need for each project. In the case of the policy-making strategies, the information gathered in the Quantitative Personas loses its validity with time. In this paper, we propose a new model for the creation of Quantitative Personas. Firstly, we make a review on available surveys regarding disability and aging by comparing them according to their objective, periodicity, the size of the sample, the accuracy and the range of variables that they cover. Secondly, we select variables from the surveys that better describe each aspect included in our model of Elderpersonas. Finally, we propose a model of layered Quantitative Elderpersonas that will be fed from those surveys
Ponencia presentada en el XV Congreso Internacional de Ingeniería de Proyectos celebrado en Huesca, 6-8 de julio de 2011In Spain, the End-of-Life of vehicles is mainly determined by three agents: Authorized Treatment Facilities (ATFs), shredding plants and dense media plants. The work method that those agents use defines the final fate –reuse, recycling, recuperation or disposal into landfills– of the waste coming from the vehicle.
In the case of ATFs, the most common model in Spain is the traditional vehicle scrapyard, which applies manual methods to dismantle materials and components. This is a model that has existed from the beginning of the automotive industry and has been converting according to different regulations that have emerged. However, this model is far from the criteria of environmental efficiency. In spite of that, there are very few newer ATPs, which apply systematic methods of dismantling more environmentally efficient.
In this paper we use the Life Cycle Assessment methodology to assess the environmental impact of new scenario of End-of-Life of vehicles –based on newer ATPs–. The results are used in a subsequent study to evaluate the improvement achieved by this new scenario compared to the traditional scenario.
process. This selection is one of the most difficult and critical decisions for the designer, and
an inappropriate concept selection can rarely be compensated on a later stage of the
process, increasing the cost of redesign at the same time. Nowadays, there are several
concept selection and evaluation methods that allow to reduce the failure risk.
The objective of this communication is to carry an analysis of those different methods to
evaluate and select concepts, with the aim of reinforcing the methodology developed by the authors on 2006.La elección del mejor concepto de producto es vital para encaminar el proceso de
